Apple Cheddar Turkey Wraps

The combination of sharp cheddar, sweet-tart apple, and smoky turkey hits every note a lunchbox needs. The honey-mustard spread does double duty as flavor and glue, keeping everything rolled tight until the lunch bell rings. Use a firm apple like Honeycrisp or Fuji — mealy apples will turn to mush by noon. Pack a cold pack underneath and these stay crisp and fresh for hours. I like to make two at a time: one for the lunchbox, one for me while I'm packing it. Serve with DIY Snack Box for a complete meal.

Apple Cheddar Turkey Wraps — finished dish

Servings:

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon honey mustard
  • 2 large burrito-size flour tortillas
  • 6 ounces deli-sliced smoked turkey breast
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium firm apple (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala), cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 handful baby spinach or mixed greens

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese and honey mustard together until smooth and spreadable.
  2. Lay one tortilla flat on a cutting board. Spread half the cream cheese mixture evenly across the entire surface, going all the way to the edges so the wrap seals.
  3. Lay half the turkey in a single overlapping layer across the center of the tortilla. Top with half the cheddar, then a layer of apple slices (pat them dry with a paper towel first if they're particularly juicy). Finish with a handful of spinach leaves.
  4. Starting from the edge closest to you, roll the tortilla tightly away from you like a jelly roll, using gentle but firm pressure. The cream cheese mixture at the far edge should seal the wrap closed.
  5. If packing for later, wrap tightly in parchment paper or plastic wrap and refrigerate with a cold pack. Slice in half diagonally just before packing for easy eating.
  6. Repeat with the second tortilla and remaining ingredients.

Tips & Variations

Make Ahead

Assemble and wrap up to 4 hours ahead. Keep refrigerated with a cold pack. Slice right before packing so the wrap stays tight. For weekly prep, mix the cream cheese spread on Sunday and keep it in a small container — then assembly takes under 3 minutes each morning.

Storage

Wrapped tightly in parchment or plastic, these stay fresh in the fridge for up to 24 hours, though the apples may release a bit of juice over time. Don't freeze — the cream cheese texture breaks and the apples turn to mush.

Substitutions

Swap turkey for honey ham or roast beef. Replace cheddar with Swiss or provolone for a milder flavor. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free tortillas warmed slightly for pliability. Swap honey mustard for cranberry sauce in November for a Thanksgiving-inspired lunchbox. Use a pear instead of an apple for a different seasonal twist.
